This school year, Memorial Elementary School secured a grant to create an exciting new STEAM learning lab. The learning lab combines multiple seating and working areas with interactive science learning tools to create the perfect space for young learners to explore Science. However, remote learning restrictions due to COVID 19 have prevented students from enjoying the space. That has all changed this March, and the students and staff couldn't be more excited! 3rd grade students were the first to try out the new space to explore and create electronic circuits. The teachers loved being able to provide the students a "hands-on" Science experience that has been missing with remote instruction. The students LOVED the activities in the learning lab as well, and are already asking when they can come back to learn more! 4th grade students will soon be using the space to learn more about the invention process and create inventions of their own. Eventually, this space will anchor a STEAM class that will provide amazing opportunities for ALL 3rd and 4th graders at Memorial Elementary to learn about Science and Engineering by "doing" in a "hands-on" environment. If early results are any indication, there will be quite a few young Scientists here in Taylorville soon! |
